FACULTY OF SCIENCE

The increasing intertwining of Astrophysics and Elementary Particle Physics naturally results in the creation of the Master programme the smallest and largest scales through the interplay of astrophysics and particle physics. Students will gain a wide range of knowledge, from fundamental interactions kin the nature to the origin and development of space on the largest scales. Particular emphasis will be placed on the understanding the experimental background of modern astrophysics and particle physics, the application of modern methods in data analysis, e.g. neural networks, and the application of computational physics in solving complex problems.

The master programme in Environmental Physics is a synthesis of education in physics and environmental science. Students gain fundamental physical knowledge in fluid dynamics, meteorology and oceanography, and the climate system, through a strong focus on analytical and numerical aspects of teaching these topics. Complementary to these broad topics we provide specialized subjects on data analysis methods, climatology, extreme events, atmospheric pollution, ecological modelling and similar. The final semester of the programme is dedicated fully to a research based thesis work. The programme is suitable for a variety of jobs, starting from meteorology and oceanography as classical occupations, to environmental protection and renewable energy, and even to diverse fields such as environmental risk assessment and sustainable development.
