University Library is a general scientific and central library of the University of Split. Its services and products are open to students, teachers, scientists, researchers and other citizens under the same conditions. It is a place where its users find announcements, knowledge and skills which lead them into an academic community, into the world of creativity, excellence and work.With its collections of professional and scientific books and textbooks, valuable collection of encyclopedia, handbooks, lexicons, dictionaries, rich periodicals,University Library offers quality material for studying, scientific research and university teaching process. Besides printed material, Library offers access to electronic publications and databases.
Library’s holdings comprise around 450,000 volumes of books, 12,000 periodicals, over thousand geographical maps, a graphic and music collection, manuscript materials and several hundred electronic books and magazines. Holdings of the University library represent an invaluable national treasure, part of the collective memory of the Croatian people and acknowledgment of existence and vitality of this institution.
Informatisation of Library’s activities began in 1980s. Connecting to internet in 1993 opened it to the public, whereas its entire network library catalogues became publicly accessible and number of services automated. New premises of the University Library offer bright and big reading rooms, electronic classrooms and rooms for group and individual work of students and professors. It is equipped with computers, reprographic equipment(copy machines, scanners, cameras,printers), free internet which enables access to electronic magazines, booksand databases. There are listening rooms as well. Library is equipped with electronic equipment designed to help partially sighted and blind persons. University’s premises are adjusted to persons with disabilities. Library cafe is a popular place to take a break from studying.
