On July 9th, in the impressive setting of MedILS in Split, the poetry-graphic map "The leaf is a man walking in the air: homage to Luko Paljetak" was solemnly presented, organized by University of Split and University Library. This exceptional bibliophilic edition of the Biškupić Collection brings together 17 poems and 34 graphics, dedicated to academic Luko Paljetak, one of the most important contemporary Croatian writers, poets, translators, and visual artists.
The map dedicated to Paljetak gathers poets and artists from several countries, including Japan, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Slovenia, all of whom were Paljetak’s friends or collaborators. As Božo Biškupić emphasized, all of them wrote poems that had not been published, because his bibliophilic projects always promote original and new content.
Preface to this edition is signed by academic Krešimir Nemec, who also compiled the poet’s biographies, while those of visual artists were entrusted to Mikica Maštrović.
Director of University Library, Ana Utrobičić, thanked Božo Biškupić for donating the map, pointing out that it will be carefully preserved and happily shared with others.
"This gift is precious to us and significantly enriches our graphic collection, which we have been developing with dedication since University Library’s foundation in 1903. Today, the collection includes hundreds of works: graphics, drawings, posters and maps that keep track of various artistic expressions and relating them to literature, language, and socio-cultural topics," she emphasized.
An additional artistic dimension to the evening was provided by an inspired poetry-musical program performed by actors Pere Eranović and Davor Pavić, as well as chanson singer Darko Matičević.
The evening was skilfully and warmly moderated by Helena Trze Jakelić, head of University Gallery.
