Report on the 1st virtual International Conference SoftCOM 2020

The 28th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks SoftCOM 2020

The 28th International Conference SoftCOM 2020 was held virtually for the first time from September 17-19, 2020 gathering together scientists and experts from 30 countries all around the world.

The Conference was organized by the University of Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, and Croatian Communications and Information Society (CCIS)

The SoftCOM2020 was organized under the auspices of the Croatian Academy of Engineering. The Conference has been technically co-sponsored by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), headquartered in New York, USA, the leading global community that promotes the advancement of scientific and professional work in the field of electrical engineering and computing.

Besides the scientific program, this special session was also dedicated to the workshop on ICT and Business Forum. Within the technical conference program, in total 130 scientific and professional papers have been accepted for presentation and held by 200 researchers

100 accepted papers have been reviewed, carefully selected, and recommended for presentation and eligible for upload into the IEEE Xplore digital library by more than 250 researchers and experts all around the world.

A plenary keynote speech titled "5G: NEW ENGINE OF DIGITAL ECONOMIC GROWTH" has been presented by Siniša Krajnović, PhD, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Services in Market Area North-East Asia, Ericsson. On behalf of the IEEE, the participants were welcomed by prof. Pascal Lorenz, Chair of IEEE ComSoc France and Financial chair of IEEE France, and a plenary session was moderated by prof. Dinko Begušić, PhD.

The technical conference program featured twenty conference sessions, including eight special sessions: Green Networking and ComputingService Quality, Reliability and SecuritySecurity and Digital ForensicsAdvances in Machine Learning for Business and FinanceEnvironmental Electromagnetic CompatibilityQoS in Wired and Wireless NetworksAd Hoc and Sensor Networks, including Advanced Educational Technologies, and the symposium Robotic and ICT Assisted Wellbeing. The SoftCOM 2020 conference featured two invited talks and two half-day tutorials held by worldwide recognized experts.

In the frame of this conference, Symposium on information security and intellectual property has been held, and two invited keynote talks have been presented and dedicated to the area of the social sciences related to the information security and protection of intellectual property.

The SoftCom Business Forum featured three workshops: 9th Workshop on Software Engineering in Practice, Workshop on Software Development, and iWORKSHOP: 7 x iSkills fundamental innovation skills in the area of ICTThese events were co-organized by a research group from Ericsson Nikola Tesla company, with the support of leading experts in ICT and national agencies representatives.

iPANEL SoftCOM 2020 Possibilities of development of NGA networks in Croatia - a technical perspective was organized in cooperation with the representatives of Split-Dalmatia County, followed by the leading providers of telecommunications services in Croatia.

The PhD Forum workshop was organized for doctoral students in collaboration with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology Osijek, and Faculty of Engineering, University of Rijeka.
