Exhibition "Female Dandy" by Greta Vuković officially opened at the University Gallery "Vasko Lipovac"

The exhibition "Female Dandy" by Greta Vuković formally opened on May 20 at the University Gallery "Vasko Lipovac". Greta Vuković introduces herself with a series of photographs representing three fashion editorials inspired by the Dandy style, taken in Split. She is a fifth year student at the Academy of Arts in Split, Department of Visual Communication Design, and the exhibited photographs were taken during her graduate studies in the course "Film Photography" under the mentorship of Mirko Pivčević and Vice Vidan.

Art history student Ivana Kasalo introduced the exhibition and started by thanking the University of Split for the trust placed in her and for the opportunity to participate in this exhibition. In her presentation, she mentioned dandyism and what it represents today. She pointed out that the author opens up a space for critical questioning of multiple femininity and refers to the social construction of gender, which in turn relies on the sex binary, significantly differentiating men and masculinity from women and femininity. Femininity therefore became the antithesis of masculinity. She ended her presentation concluding that Greta puts before observers the task of re-examining their own perception of femininity.

After her, the author addressed the audience, saying that with a series of dandy-style fashion photos she tried to bypass conventional femininity and reconsider a new one. Vuković therefore asked the audience "Is there, still, a possibility that female sensuality surpasses the restraint of masculinity?" Her series of photographs starts a dialogue with the purpose of testing the hypothesis that repressed and concealed sensuality needs to be expressed.

Head of the University Gallery, Helena Trze Jakelić, opened the exhibition congratulating the author and emphasizing her satisfaction with the exhibition.
- It is a pleasure to be able to host young authors and students in the University of Split’s Gallery, because we have the opportunity to be part of and help them in getting affirmed in the arts and cultural scene of our city - Jakelić concluded.
