Hack4Split took place and the Split4Cats team won first place with an application for finding and taking care of Split’s cats without owners

Hack4Split - social hackathon that aims to find and implement socially useful solutions for the well-being and progress of our local community, using the benefits of modern technology, was held on April 17 and 18. This year, the emphasis was on solving problems in line with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

This year's Hack4Split in hybrid form (part of the competitors participated live and part with MS Teams) gathered 6 teams with 30 participants. First prize for the best solution went to the team Split4Cats, which presented an application for finding and taking care of our city’s cats; prize for the best design solution to the Second Style Around team that presented a platform for your personal stylist who owns quality second hand clothes; and the award for the most valuable team and teamwork went to DonatQR team for their work on developing a transparent, reliable and easy to use donation system.

Organization of Hack4Split was taken care of by members of the Student Entrepreneurship Incubator, mentors Lana Ugrčić and Jelena Čulić, together with a team of volunteers: Ljubica Nazor, Lucija Baranović, Lora Močić, Blanka Kelava, Ivan Marin, Marin Jurić and Andrej Marić in cooperation with Michael Freer from Ensoco. This year's competition took place in the University of Split’s SPINIT incubator, in three spaces - the conference hall, co-working space and the top meeting room, adhering to all epidemiological measures and using the MS Teams platform.

This year's Hack4Split brought together 6 teams with 30 competitors, of different nationalities, who worked in a cheerful and proactive atmosphere on various social issues, such as the problem of waste textiles ending up in landfills, aiming to reduce purchasing new clothes and reusing old ones, problem of cats freely roaming the city and finding a place for them, of monitoring marine environment quality, of disposing discarded unused household goods, of developing a transparent and reliable donation system, as well as that of energy (in)efficiency in urban residential areas.
