Press release from the University of Split Senate’s 43rd session

At today's 43rd session, the University of Split Senate confirmed the assoc. prof. Maja Krželj Ph.D. as the Head of the University Department of Marine Studies for a term of three years, starting from March 1, 2021.

The Senate adopted the Action Plan for Prevention and Suppression of All Forms of Discrimination, Harassment and Violence at the University of Split. During this year, the Action Plan plans to draft and adopt a Policy and then a Protocol on Action. A website with relevant information would then be created. Also, the Action Plan envisages forming a network of contacts for filing a report, their education as well as the establishment of a system for monitoring statistics of reports, as well as carrying out the education of students and employees. On February 10, the rector prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D. appointed the Commission for Prevention and Suppression of All Forms of Discrimination, Harassment and Violence at the University of Split with the task of analyzing the current situation and proposing measures and activities to prevent and sanction irregularities.
The Commission determined that the University of Split, and its constituents, has publicly available Codes of Ethics, clearly stating that discrimination and harassment are unacceptable. Some constituents also have an Ordinance on the disciplinary responsibility of teachers and associates, or an equivalent document, available on the website. The University also has a Psychological Counseling Center for Students, information on it on its website, and a Student Ombudsman has been appointed.Despite all existing elements, the Commission deemed that there was room to improve both prevention and mechanisms for dealing with cases of discrimination, harassment and violence, in particular their visibility and same treatment across different constituents. For that reason, the Commission proposed to the Senate adopting an Action Plan outlining main activities with deadlines.

At today's session, the Senate decided to launch the University Center for Venetian-Ottoman Studies, which would scientifically research the valuables of our local history and its presentation to both our and the world's scientific community. Contacts with fellow scientists from European countries such as Austria, Italy, France, Germany, were made earlier and now preconditions to expand cooperation with many reputable domestic and foreign higher education institutions and research centers will be met.

The Senate also confirmed the promotion of assoc. prof. Nikola Glamuzina Ph.D. (Faculty of Philosophy) and assoc. prof. Vesna Sokol Ph.D. (Faculty of Chemistry and Technology) to the scientific-teaching degree of full professor.
