STUDENT STANDARD – A look at past Student Center’s activities

Beginning of the new academic year is approaching, so we should look back at what was done in the Student Center during the past year. We will use the method of concluding grades in school, when the teacher collects all grades and notes at the end of the year in order to decide on a student’s final grade. You, dear readers, take the role of that teacher, and we will just report few notes from our e-diary.

Campus Restaurant proved to be one of better city spaces for organizing various types of events. Students could enjoy four dinner parties intended just for them. The first was held at the beginning of the academic year, the second before Christmas, the third for Valentine's Day only for couples of students in love, and the fourth on International Women's Day, only for female students, while male students served as waiters. Dinner in several courses was paid with a student card. In December, the restaurant hosted a large charity dinner to help children from "Maestral", co-organized by the Student Center Split, and collected funds helped to decorate the apartment in the city center where the residents of the home live after finishing high school. The money needed was raised, and that evening numerous performers, including Petar Grašo, Zorica Kondža, Doris Dragović and Ivo Amulić, had only words of praise for the restaurant. There was also more than just eating and dancing there. Beginning of June, a big quiz was held there, in which University of Split's components competed, stand-up comedians from the Split scene also performed, and students had the opportunity to watch two plays free of charge, Rocko and Cicibela and Perfect Cut. Not bad for a student restaurant, right?

The Student Center made sure that the student experience in Split be more than just about learning, and raising the level of quality is the fundamental mission of every student center. Certain rooms in student dormitories have been repurposed into areas for entertainment and student socializing or into student living rooms that offer top-notch services that eliminate any boredom. From billiards, darts, PlayStation and board games, to karaoke, bar tables and chairs, comfortable sofas and walls painted with attractive graffiti. This year, the Student Dormitory "Bruno Bušić" opened a free gym for its residents, and the dormitory on Campus remodeled theirs and equipped it with new equipment. Residents also received 40 bicycles that they can use free of charge, with the possibility of free use of electric scooters and SUP boards.

Diet in student restaurants improved in comfort and quality. Numerous additions have been introduced, and FGAG’s Restaurant has been completely remodeled. Project documentation for the construction of a new restaurant at FESB with 2 lines and 300 seats, as well as project documentation for a new restaurant in Kopilica, were prepared. In order to make food quality as good as possible, a game with prizes was organized, Rate the meal and win a prize, in which students evaluated and commented on their meals on UNISpot mobile app, winning rich prizes, among which: bicycle, electric scooter, laptop, B category course driving license course or a three-day trip to Varaždin, Pula or Dubrovnik. The favorite student cafe Tinel got a new look and it also became the site of an attractive student pub-quiz league in which more than 110 teams competed. The construction of a new student service right next to Tinel is underway, so that students will literally be able to pop in from having coffee to collect their student contract.
