Summer school “AMARE-MED 2021”

Organized by the University Department of Marine Studies within the Interreg project FAIRSEA - Fisheries in the Adriatic Region - a Shared Ecosystem Approach, a summer school entitled "AMARE-MED 2021: 2nd FAIRSEA advanced school on quantitative methods for ecosystem approach to fisheries application“ will take place June 21-26.

This is a course on quantitative methods applicable to the ecosystem approach to fisheries, of a technical nature, with practical computer activities, tasks and programming, attended by 29 participants from Croatia and abroad (PHDs, postdoctoral students and scientists), partly live and partly online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the summer school’s opening on Monday, June 21 at the Ora Hotel, the University of Split Vice-Rector, prof. Leandra Vranješ Markić Ph.D. emphasized how important international cooperation was:

- In the European Commission’s project, out of 56 registered university networks, our alliance European University of the Sea SEA-EU made it to the first 17, one of its goals being obtaining European degree. That means the University of Split is one of six partner universities in the SEA-EU Alliance and it presents itself as a maritime university. We want to create a university of the future, so that our students and staff could move freely between borders, without language barriers, and exchange ideas - said Vice Rector Vranješ Markić, pointing out how proud she was that despite these difficult times, caused by coronavirus, the Summer school would be taking place. She said she was sure that the knowledge and skills they acquired would be very useful to the participants in numerous challenges that follow.

Head of the University Department of Marine Studies, assoc. prof. Maja Krželj Ph.D., project leader Dr. Simone Libralato, from the Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics in Trieste, and prof. Svjetlana Krstulović Šifner Ph.D. from the Department of Marine Studies, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, also greeted the participants.
