University of Split and City of Sinj signed a cooperation agreement on performing the undergraduate study program Mediterranean Agriculture

Cooperation agreement between the University of Split and the City of Sinj on performing the undergraduate study of Mediterranean Agriculture was signed on Monday, January 17, in the Sinj City Hall, by prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D., University of Split Rector and Miro Bulj, Mayor of Sinj. In addition to joint work on implementing the study, City of Sinj and University of Split will cooperate on establishing a research center for testing herbs and agricultural products, which is supposed to be located in the building "Štalija". Also, there are plans to conduct the study’s practical classes on the agricultural land in the Sinj field, whose surface amounts to ​​about one hectare.

Rector Ljutić expressed his satisfaction with being welcomed (and accepted) in the City of Sinj, stressing the importance of cooperation between University and the local community.

- In this time of negative news, we have a good story, based on extraordinary youth striving to knowledge, so I am convinced that we will establish something of real quality in our Provence. It is not just a question of knowledge, it is also one of demography, young people remaining here, and starting new family farms - it is accepting something that leads us to a better future - said Rector Ljutić.

Mayor Bulj pointed out that this day was important for Sinj because it is becoming a university town.

- The greatest potential of Dalmatian hinterland is agriculture, and the City of Sinj as well as Split’s wider area are inseparable in terms of economy - said Mayor Bulj, adding that the corona crisis showed how important are self-sufficiency in producing-making food, energy sources and water supplies; all great potentials of the Cetina region.
