WHY STUDY AT THE FACULTY OF MARITIME STUDIES, UNIVERSITY OF SPLIT?

Is there anyone who loves the sea without having read the famous ‘Besa’ by even more famous Jože Horvat, a writer, world traveler and sea enthusiast who from the comfort of the "continent" set out to world's oceans? That is why we will add to an already well-known saying: "Navigare necesse est, vivere non est necesse" (one must sail, one must not live) that of Jože Horvat: "Only people who live for something truly live", because to enroll, finish and live the profession acquired at the Faculty of Maritime Studies means living, not for something - but for the sea…

- The Faculty of Maritime Studies is part of the University of Split’s family, which according to Times Higher Education 2021, occupied a place between 801-1000. on the world’s universities’ ranking list and has been, for the first time, ranked in 10 of the 17 sustainable development goals, as the only Croatian university, which ranks it among the 4% best in the world.

- The Faculty’s study program: "Maritime technologies of yachts and marinas" is unique and enables the recognition of the Faculty of Maritime Studies in the national and international markets of higher education in the field of maritime affairs. It is fully harmonized with Croatia and European Union’s strategic documents that both, among other things, emphasize their maritime and tourism strategic orientations. Developing the program, special attention was paid to harmonizing curricula with national legislation and international recommendations by world's leading institutions relevant to maritime affairs, in particular: the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). The curricula comply with STCW (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers), IMO and ISO standards.

- Studying Marine engineering, students get the right to lifelong learning, according to principles of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers - STCW 1978/95 (mobility and global comparability of study programs, professors and students), and retraining programs according to EU project METNET.

- Completing their studies, students receive certificates by which the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia guarantees that they do not have to take courses in various training centers.

- With project activities, financed from European Union’s programs and funds, the Faculty of Maritime Studies continuously equips its premises with modern devices, so that students can spend practical and laboratory part of their training in a technologically advanced environment.

- A special step towards students’ needs is the Erasmus+ project MareMathics, which innovatively, applying digital technologies and modern media, makes it easier for students to master demanding math units and apply them in maritime affairs. The Faculty’s permanent involvement in international projects opens doors to many international institutions for realizing student exchange and mobility, not only through Erasmus+ in almost all EU countries, but also in partner institutions in the Philippines, Russia or South America.

- The educational process of the Faculty of Maritime Studies, University of Split, includes students, alumni and involved parties (university-industry cooperations) who help the Faculty refresh its program according to new trends in maritime affairs. Classes involve work on modern equipment consisting of simulators, didactic equipment, a planetarium, well equipped library, computers for CBT and video material and e-learning.
