The University of Split is relatively young, founded in 1974, but the legacy of great Croatian scientists is built into its foundations as well as the scientific and social engagement of its staff today make it the most important scientific and educational institution in this part of Europe.

UNIVERSITY COMPONENTS

The University of Split consists of 11 faculties (Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture /FESB/, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, Catholic Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Chemical Technology, Faculty of Kinesiology, School of Medicine, Faculty of Maritime Studies, Faculty of Law , Faculty of Science /PMF/), academy (Academy of Arts), four university departments (University Department of Marine Studies, University Department of Professional Studies, University Department of Forensic Sciences and University Department of Health Studies) and three study divisions (Mediterranean Agriculture, Military Navy Studies, Hospitality and Gastronomy) with almost 20,000 students.

All components together can boast with over 180 study programs conducted in the field of social sciences, humanities, natural, technical, bio-technical, medical, and biomedical sciences, as well as in the field of art.

Our University constantly monitors trends in science and higher education, complementing its offer with new, interesting and attractive study programs.

 

THE MEDITERRANEAN AS FIELD OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH?

Classical study programs are represented together with specialized scientific fields or disciplines that study Mediterranean’s natural and social characteristics in the local, Adriatic and wider area’s features.

Research and protection of Mediterranean artistic and architectural heritage, philology, Adriatic agriculture, oceanography and fisheries, Adriatic botany and zoology, island and coastal economy, Adriatic tourism, maritime law and shipbuilding are just some of the areas that serve to set apart University of Split’s activity in Croatia, as well as the wider European context.

According to Times Higher Education 2021, the University of Split occupies 801-1000. place on the world ranking list of universities and for the first time is the only university in the Republic of Croatia to be ranked in 10 of the 17 goals of sustainable development.

 

 

UNIVERSITY OF SPLIT IN THE FAMILY OF EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES

…new generation of creative Europeans

The University of Split is a full member of the European Universities of the Seas Alliance (SEA-EU), a European universities’ initiative.

The initiative wants to create a European education area where tomorrow, among others, University of Split students will "obtain degrees by combining studies in several EU countries and thus form a new generation of creative Europeans who can work together in several languages, ​​across borders and different disciplines. That will make it easier for Europe to deal with the lack of skilled workers, also with challenges yet to come” (ec.europa.eu).

Our University is also at the front of the digital credentials project, its intention being that all diplomas come in digital form and be valid throughout Europe.

In addition to about a hundred bilateral agreements with foreign (European, American, Australian, Japanese, Canadian and Russian) universities, around 150 LLP agreements with renowned European universities serve as the basis for mobility.

 

HIGHEST STUDENT STANDARD IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA

Cooperating with the state and implementing large EU projects raised Split students’ standard to one of the best in Croatia. Modern and technically equipped lecture halls and laboratories, specialized simulators, the most modern planetarium in this part of Europe, an impressive and well-equipped University Library whose fund comprises over 450,000 volumes, the representative University Gallery "Vasko Lipovac" which already is the city's most dynamic cultural venue, are just a part of the stimulating work environment for both students and the University’s teaching and non-teaching staff.

 

 

THE MOST MODERN AND FUNCTIONAL STUDENT CAMPUS IN SOUTHEAST EUROPE

In late 1970s, visionaries saw Split as a university center with a modern student campus. 40 years later, University of Split’s largest project – the Campus was formed and 70% of the planned facilities and accompanying contents are finished and in operation. The buildings of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture and the Faculty of Economics, together with three-faculties-building: Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, Faculty of Science and Maritime Studies, as well as the University Library and Student dormitory were built on Campus.

 

STUDENT CENTER (ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS)

In a city visited by over 5 million people every year, it is certainly not easy to find a space to live in year-round. However, the University continuously works on providing student accommodation by building comfortable dormitories that adhere to modern standards.

Currently, students in Split are housed in three dormitories: "Dr. Franjo Tuđman”, “Bruno Bušić” and Hostel Spinut. They also provide accommodation for students with disabilities.

Construction of the fourth student dormitory within Campus with 590 beds will start soon.

Within Student Center, there are seven student restaurants and nine canteens that offer a wide selection of dishes for everyone's taste on a daily basis.

 

OFFICE FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

The Office provides assistance and support to students with special needs, their professors, other academic and non-academic staff.

 

PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING

Students have access to the Psychological Counseling Center, which organizes counseling and educational activities, aiming to help and support students in solving personal difficulties, increasing the efficiency of their studying and quality of life.

 

UNIVERSITY SPORT AS PRECIOUS ORNAMENT

UniSport Split is certainly the most dynamic organization of the University of Split. UniSport ST handles organizing sports events in the University, but also analyzes sports, both student and professional. But, as they like to point out, it is primarily a place where students celebrate youth, sports, education, recreation, entertainment, future, friendship, amateurism, Olympism, health, volunteering, love, victory…1950.

We can talk about UniSport Split successes for a while, but let us point out their most successful event: the International Rowing Regatta "Sveti Duje", where best student teams from Oxford and Cambridge compete every year.

 

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The University of Split financially supports almost 100 student projects every year with over 3 million HRK.
