Erasmus+ Programme Countries - Incoming Students

The Erasmus+ programme enables students to study or work in another Programme or Partner country.
[DC1] You can only study under Erasmus+ programme within Programme countries if your Home University has signed an Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement with the University of Split.
If an Erasmus+ agreement is currently not in place with your University, you may be able to come to the University of Split as a visiting student/freemover (on a fee-paying basis).
Erasmus+ student traineeship
Foreign students can spend part of their studies at the University of Split under the Erasmus+ traineeship program. Traineeships can be undertaken at the university's faculties, the International Relations Office, or other relevant offices.
It is the responsibility of interested students to find appropriate traineeships and agree on the terms and conditions with the receiving institution's contact person. The International Relations Office can assist in directing the students, but we can not guarantee the organization of the traineeship unless it is to take place in our Office.

1. Contact the faculty/department of your choice and propose the details of your traineeship
For a list of faculties please visit this page 
2. Upon positive feedback of the responsible contact person at the host institution, contact your home institution and inform them of your plans
Check for any important information/requirements of your home institution
3. Fill out the Learning Agreement for Traineeships and send it to the responsible contact person at the host institution for approval
4. Have the form signed by all parties (student, home and host institution)
5. Send the scanned form to erasmus@unist.hr

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR ERASMUS STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SPLIT
 
STEP 1 - NOMINATION

Erasmus students first need to be nominated by their home universities to the International Relations Office (erasmus@unist.hr) 
Nomination deadlines:
winter semester: 15 May
summer semester: 15 October
 
STEP 2 - APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
After nomination is done by the Home University, you will receive instructions on the application by e-mail.
Application period:
winter semester: 1 April - 1 June
summer semester: 1 September - 1 November
 
STEP 3 - ONLINE LEARNING AGREEMENT (OLA)
To be considered for mobility, you need to complete your Online Learning Agreement (OLA) following instructions provided by your home university.
After you have initiated your OLA, it needs to be approved by your home coordinator.

In the list above, you can find the contact person's name (host Erasmus+ coordinator) for your Faculty while studying in Split. 
Erasmus+ Coordinators are the ones to contact for any questions about courses and responsible persons for signing Learning Agreements between universities.

In each case, Welcome day is always organized on the first day of the semester, following the academic calendar published above.

Exceptionally, if your university is not connected to Erasmus Without Paper (EWP), you can use a paper version of the Learning Agreement
English language Level B2 certificate is necessary (either a language proficiency certificate or a certificate from a home university).

STEP 4 - ONLINE APPLICATION
Upon approval of your OLA/LA by you and your home coordinator, please fill out the online application form and send your Learning Agreement to the Erasmus coordinator from the host faculty.

Only after you have submitted your online application, the host coordinator will consider your OLA for approval.
 
STEP 5 - ACCEPTANCE LETTER
When your OLA is approved by all parties (student, home institution, host institution), you will receive your acceptance letter and you can start planning your mobility!

Accommodation


Regarding accommodation in Split, incoming Erasmus students have two basic options.
They may stay in a dormitory or seek private accommodation.

*Please note that only students participating in Erasmus+ study mobility may apply for dormitory accommodation.
*Students can book a place in a dormitory for one semester only!

The University of Split offers accommodation for Erasmus exchange students in the Student dorm „Hostel Spinut“ and Student dorm “dr. Franjo Tuđman (Campus)”, but the number of rooms at the Student dormitories is limited; therefore, places are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
IMPORTANT: Accommodation in the dorms can only be guaranteed for the official mobility period stated in your acceptance letter, so please plan your arrival and departure accordingly.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS ON ACCOMMODATION IN DORMS
        1.  ACCOMMODATION BOOKING
1.1. Accommodation booking is made to UNIST through the Accommodation form until June 01 (for the winter semester) and November 01 (for the summer semester). All nominated students will receive the accommodation application form by e-mail after the nomination period.
1.2. By submitting this application form, all applicants agree that the University of Split will publish their personal data on their web page within the selection procedures
1.3. There is a limited number of bedrooms available at dorms, UNIST cannot guarantee accommodation for all ERASMUS+ students. Once the AF data have been checked, places will be distributed on a “first-come, first-served basis”. If any false statement has been made, an accommodation request will not be accepted.
1.4. A list of selected students will be published by 1 July/1 December on this page.
 The list is subject to update.

        2. RESERVATION DEPOSIT, CANCELLATION FEE
2.1. Students selected for places in dorms are provided with email instructions to remit a reservation deposit of 500 EUR. Bank transfer notification is to be made by July 10 (for students coming in winter semester) or December 10 (for students coming in the summer semester). If payment notification along with the Statement of Acceptance ( SoA ) is missed until the deadline, UNIST will consider it as cancellation of accommodation application and will contact student on a waiting list.
2.2. Reservation deposit is to be returned by SCST to the student by bank transfer at the end of student’s stay upon presentation of the cancellation of registration made at the Reception desk and confirmation that the student room is in order. A bank fee may apply. Return of bank deposit will be made 15 days at the latest from the checkout.
2.3. Compensation for any damages caused by student will be deducted from the reservation deposit. In case of damages, the deposit can only be remitted to student after the exact costs for the damage claims have been determined. These claims can cause delays in bank transfers.
2.4.  A whole reservation deposit will be kept as a cancellation fee in case:
a) student’s booking cancellation is not a case of Force Majeure[1]  
b) the student has been expelled from the dorm, and
c) student arrived later than scheduled date of arrival without prior written notification.
2.5. Half of the reservation deposit will be kept as cancellation fee in cases outlined under 2.4 if Student Centre Split (SCST) will be able to replace student’s place in 30 days from the student’s scheduled date of arrival/earlier departure as well as if the rent fee is not paid until the end of the current month (30th or 31st).
2.6. In case of an early departure of full year students in accordance with 6.1, deposit will be kept in the amount of the difference between the semester and full-year fee.
2.7. If a user violates the house rules and receives a minor disciplinary measure, a portion of the deposit in the amount of 100 euros is automatically withheld (as defined in the House Rules and applicable to all dormitory residents). If the user continues to stay in the dormitory after the measure has been issued, they are required to replenish the deposit within 8 days, so that the total amount returns to the initial 500 euros. In the event of damage to the inventory, the deposit is withheld, as is the case with a more serious disciplinary measure.

         3. BOOKING CONFIRMATION AND CANCELLATION
3.1.The booking will be processed in the order of arrival of the reservation deposit + SoA + medical certificate confirming the students’ general health state.
3.2. Once the reservation deposit, SoA, and the medical certificate confirming the students’ general health state are received, UNIST sends a booking confirmation to selected students. Student place in the dorm is guaranteed once the booking confirmation is received. Medical certificate is to be issued by student’s family physician in the country of origin in English language or in the original language with a certified translation in English/ Croatian language. Without all of the documents student will not be able to move in. Medical certificate in original is to be presented to the dorm in original upon check-in.
3.3.The student may cancel accommodation booking just in case of Force Majeure. Cancellation should be in written form (by email to erasmus@unist.hr) along with valid confirmation attached, after which reservation deposit will be reimbursed and the bank charges will be deducted. 
3.4.Student accommodation can be booked for the duration maximum of 3 days before the official start of the semester/Welcome event and 3 days after the official end of the exam sessions (availability depends on capacity).
         
         4. RENT FEE
4.1.    For students staying one semester: The monthly rent for a double room is 240 EUR.  
Please note that the prices are subject to change in accordance with the market conditions. In such case, SCST shall provide timely information.
4.2. Fee is to be paid in advance each month until 5th of the current month to SCST at the dorm Reception desk. If the rent fee payment is missed until the end of the current month (30th or 31st), student will be expelled from the dorm and cancelation fee will apply. 
4.3.   For accommodation up to 15 days (up to 15th and from 15th of the month), a half month rent is applied (e.g. from February 1 till February 15). This applies only to February and July. 
4.4.  Accommodation can be booked until 3 days after the official end of the semester/exam sessions. After that date, a commercial fee is applied in accordance with the dorm price list. 
4.5.   For students arriving before the official semester beginning date and staying after the end of the semester, an extra fee of 11 EUR is applicable for a maximum of 3 days. After that, a commercial fee shall be applied. In the case of staying in the dormitory after July 15 until September 25, accommodation is charged at the full commercial price as defined by the current price list of the Student Center Split.
4.6.   The total amount of the rent fee stated in the booking confirmation is fixed for the duration of the semester. If a student arrives later, or leaves the dorm before the end of the semester, they still need to pay the full semester rent (apart from justified Force Majeure).
 
          5. ARRIVALS/DEPARTURE, CHECK IN/OUT
5.1. Students should plan to arrive in accordance with the official semester start. For students arriving before beginning of the semester, extra or commercial fee will apply (article 4.5).

5.4. Check-in is possible 24 hours/day, while check-out is to be made until 10:00 am. The reception desk is available from 06:00 to 22:00, but if arriving between 22:00 and 06:00, guests can only collect the key from the security guard, with the obligation to report to the reception on the same day.

5.5. While checking in, student checks the room condition, makes remarks if any and signs the Statement of responsibility (SOR) for the dorm room and inventory.
5.6. While checking in, student has to provide Reception desk with 2 photos for issuance of the dorm ID card. 
5.7. Checking out takes from half to one hour. In case checking out is to be made during a weekend or holiday, check out has to be reported 3 days before (Article 5.3)
5.8. The student cannot move from one room/dorm to another unless allowed by SCST. The SCST reserves the right to allocate students from one room to another.

 6. PREMATURE TERMINATION, EXTENDED ACCOMMODATION ***Students can book a place in a dormitory for one semester only! 
6.1 Premature termination of accommodation is possible just for student who has booked whole a.y. where the termination is possible at the end of first semester (February 28) with prior request for withdrawal in writing by email to be made by December 31 at latest. Article 2.6 is applicable.
6.2 An extension of accommodation to full year is possible if free place is available. An early application for extension in writing by email to UNIST is compulsory (1 November). In this case, the monthly rent fee shall be corrected to correspond the amount paid by full year exchange students. 
 

 7. DORMS/ROOMS DESCRIPTION, RULES AND VISITS
7.1. Hostel Spinut is situated close to the city center, west part of the city, in the heart of the Marjan Hill, surrounded by parks and forest. Address is Spinutska 39. Picture gallery
7.2.    Dr. Franjo Tuđman dorm is situated at the University campus, east part of the city, close to the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism; Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy; Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture; Academy of Arts, School of Medicine, University Department for Forensic Sciences; University Department of Health Studies and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. 7.3.    Available rooms at Spinut dorm are double and at Dr. Franjo Tuđman dorm double and single. Double rooms have separate beds and toilette included. Bedlinen, laundry room, and Wi-Fi (in lobby) are provided. A mini fridge is provided in dr. Franjo Tuđman dorm rooms. The reception desk is open 24 hours. Bed linen is changed twice a month (1st and 15th of the month or next working day if it’s a weekend or holiday).
7.4.   The student may share a room with a friend (in such a case, the field preferences in the AF should be filled in properly). The room can be shared with a student of the same gender. In case of spouse or brother/sister, a valid confirmation should be attached to the preference stated in AF.
7.5.  Louder noise in the rooms is not allowed. 
7.6.  Students must keep their rooms clean and in order. 
7.7.   Parties to be held at the party room must be announced to the Reception desk. 
7.8.   Breaking the dorm rules leads to sanctions. Please consult the Student Housing Rules. 
7.9.   Pets are not allowed in the dorm.
7.10. Visits with overnights are to be reported to the Reception desk at least 3 days before the guest’s arrival.

[1] Force majeure is any unforeseeable exceptional situation or event beyond the student's control which prevents him/her from accommodation in the dorm, was not attributable to error or negligence on his/her part, and proves insurmountable despite all due diligence (illness or death of family members). Strikes or financial difficulties cannot be invoked as force majeure by a student.
