The European Universities Games 2026 officially opened on July 18 in Salerno with a grand ceremony at Piazza della Libertà. More than 4,000 student-athletes from over 400 universities across Europe are participating in this major European student sports competition.
Croatia is represented in Salerno by a record delegation of 440 members—including over 400 athletes—making it one of the most numerous participant of the Games. University of Split is among Croatian representatives.
The ceremony featured the traditional parade of universities, and the Games were officially opened by President of the Campania region, Roberto Fico.
While competitions continue in Salerno until August 1, our University is already looking ahead. In two years, European Universities Games will take place in Split, where University of Split will host this major European student sports event and welcome thousands of athletes from across Europe.
