In two years, the city under Marjan will host a grand sports event- the European University Sports Games 2028!
Top student-athletes from all universities across the continent will come to Split, compete on sports fields, but what adds value to this meeting is - besides sport - friendship and contacts, exchange of experiences among students, young people who will shape our future.
Everyone agrees that hosting this event for athletes from European academic communities is an additional benefit for Split as a Mediterranean tourist gem, further developing the city as a university destination for an increasing number of international students and their education at University of Split’s components.
Regarding the visit of European University Sports Association (EUSA)’s delegation, representatives who arrived in Split included: Haris Pavletić, EUSA president, Bruno Barracosa, vice-president, Francis Cirianni, member of the executive board, Matjaž Pečovnik, general secretary, and Sara Rožman, head of operations.
First "inspection" took place at the Zvončac Swimming Pool Sports Center, where the delegation was welcomed by Anđelo Šetka, sports director of the Water Polo Club "Jadran".
Then, EUSA representatives held a working meeting with University of Split Rector, prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D., and Vice-rector, prof. Nikola Koceić-Bilan Ph.D.
This visit also included a tour of Zagreb Hotel, where EUSA representatives were welcomed by Ivan Galić, advisor to Minister of Tourism and Sports, as well as a visit to Pupils Dormitory, accompanied by representatives of the Split-Dalmatia County, head of the Department of Education, Tomislav Đonlić, and Deputy County Prefect, Stipe Čogelja -Toni Gamulin added.
Regarding our guests from the umbrella student sports organization’s reactions, Bruno Barracosa, the first vice-president of EUSA, under whose patronage the Games will take place in Split, voiced their comments and assessment:
Split is a city of sports, and we are very satisfied with sports infrastructure, we have full confidence in the organizers - Croatian Academic Sports Association and University Sports Association of Split’s organizational team.
