The first European scientific expedition to study man’s impact on coastal areas arrives in Split. The TREC expedition is led by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), together with Tara Ocean Foundation, Tara OceanS Consortium and European Marine Biology Centre (EMBRC). It brings together more than 150 research teams from more than 70 institutions from 21 countries. In Croatia, the expedition will be carried out in presence of scientists from Split’s Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, local partner of the TREC expedition.
The international scientific expedition 'Traversing European Coastlines' (TREC) was launched in March 2023. Its first part was focused on the European coastline along the Atlantic, Baltic and North Seas. In 2024, the expedition moved to shores of the Mediterranean Sea and is arriving to Croatia.
