As part of the Sustainability Festival, the first International Congress for Sustainable Ecosystems in the Mediterranean Area was opened on October 2nd. The event brought together over 80 participants, including internationally renowned scientists who came to the University of Split, not only from various European countries, but other parts of the world as well.
"Topics of this two-day congress cover various areas, such as agricultural-food sector, fisheries, aquaculture, marine pollution, climate change, biodiversity, tourism, digitalization in agriculture and food production, environmental protection, waste management, and more," Maja Krželj said, emphasizing that along with lectures, there will also be a poster session, and an interesting cultural program has been prepared for all participants.
The congress was opened by prof. Igor Jerković Ph.D., University of Split’s Vice-Rector for Science and Quality, joined by prof. Nikola Koceić-Bilan Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Teaching, Students, and Business.
Vice-Rector Jerković emphasized that the conference’s theme is extremely relevant, and university components are approaching it in different ways. This commitment to achieving sustainability through education, research and development, partnerships, community activities, and responsible business practices is also reflected in our contribution to achieving UN’s 17 global Sustainable Development Goals, which makes University of Split the highest ranked in Croatia, on the Times Higher Education Impact list.
The musical program featured Marija Bašić Markotić on flute and Pero Prosenica on keyboards.
