Few believed that the energy brought by European University of the Seas, in autumn 2019, would lead to so many changes to the academic community, education, and society as a whole. Yet, even five years later, we witness paved changes that continue to occur for the benefit of all. That is what transformation is, a change for the better! This is the Alliance’s fundamental goal - to transform the European education space, making it more competitive and ready for today's challenges.

The European University of the Seas alliance comprises six European universities: University of Cádiz, University of Brest, University of Gdańsk, University of Malta, and University of Split. It officially began its journey on October 1, 2019, under the slogan "Living sustainably by the sea, from the sea, and with the sea."

Thanks to the synergy of SEA-EU like-minded individuals, new projects have been created (such as SEA-EU doc, reSEArch SEA-EU, Era Shuttle, to name just a few), while others are continuously being submitted, including one in which cities like Brest, Kiel, and Split play a key role alongside universities. This is an excellent example of involving universities in the community and active life of citizens.

Strengthened by three new partners - Nord University from Bodø (Norway), University of Algarve from Faro (Portugal), and Naples Parthenope University (from Italy) - and with as many as 77 associated partners (ports, cities, NGOs, research institutes, and companies), the Alliance continued its journey with even greater momentum, especially in terms of promoting various forms of mobility and rich educational offer that features developing four joint studies at all three levels: undergraduate, graduate, and PhD.

Living under the slogan of SEA-EU’s second phase, "SEA-EU for All," represents an even greater change, as all parties are invited to participate - institutional leaders, professors, students, and administrative staff. This is supported by numerous staff weeks for administration and teaching staff, student projects, free language courses, workshops, webinars, and more.

SEA-EU has made a significant contribution to universities’ visibility, fostering connections among students and professors, improving regulations and generally changing perception concerning the role of universities in society.
