The ceremonial session of the Faculty Council, on Dec. 22. marked the celebration of the Faculty of Maritime Studies’ Day in Split and 66th anniversary of establishing this higher education institution.
On that occasion, the Faculty was congratulated by Dijana Mandić, Director of Ministry of Science’s Higher Education Department; Blaženko Boban, Split-Dalmatia County Mayor; and Prof. Nikola Koceić-Bilan Ph.D., University of Split’s Vice-Rector for Students, Teaching, and Operations. Yusuke Mori, Deputy Executive Director of IAMU, sent a video message to the Faculty, including warm greetings.
Assoc. Prof. Ivan Peronja Ph.D., Faculty’s dean, stated in his address that last year was demanding and challenging, yet also very successful. He expressed pride of the entire team, all employees, and especially students numbering 1,100.
"This institution has been sailing world’s seas for 66 years and connecting global coasts, has produced over 10,000 ‘blue’ ambassadors—people who constantly promote knowledge and experience, as well as colours of their city, county, and homeland," Dean Peronja said. He emphasized the excellent cooperation between Faculty, Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, University, institutions and companies, related faculties and partners.
“It brings me joy that our excellence is recognized abroad, noting that just some 20 days ago, after completing reaccreditation procedure, experts from Slovenia and Norway agreed on our good quality.”
"As much as the sea connects coasts, human hearts need bridges. Foundation of these bridges in the academic community must be ability for critical thinking, individual dignity, and the right to have a different opinion—values that must come before interests, in academic and all other communities," emphasized the Dean, announcing this year's laureates.
During the ceremony, diplomas, plaques, acknowledgments, and awards were presented.
On behalf of all the awardees, Deputy Mayor of Split, Matea Dorčić, expressed her gratitude.
Celebrating Faculty’s Day, Dean Peronja and president of Jadrolinija’s board, Robert Blažinović, signed an agreement on student scholarships. Also, Petra Marendić, student and Olympic athlete, signed a scholarship agreement with the company Pomorski peljar.
