The Horizon Europe project InnoThyroGen, worth 5 million euros and focused on developing personalized medicine in the field of thyroid diseases, was ceremoniously presented to academic and wider public on April 14, in School of Medicine’s amphitheatre.

Project team member, Andrea Gelemanović Ph.D., emphasized that this project faced very hard competition. Out of 205 submitted projects, only 12 were approved, among which is School of Medicine’s InnoThyroGen. The project is funded by European Union through Horizon Europe research and innovation program, under the call "Widening participation and spreading excellence."

InnoThyroGen project brings together numerous experts, and what particularly pleases us is that it also benefits the wider community or our citizens. This is precisely what we continually strive to promote at our faculty - open science.

Innovative, contemporary, and interdisciplinary are words that best describe this project and from personal experience, as leader of two Horizon projects, I know how much effort and dedication lies behind it. Therefore, I congratulate the project team and collaborators on this achievement. Their success elevates our University’s ranking, as together with number of citations and published papers, it is equally important to participate in international scientific projects, Vice-rector Jajac said, encouraging everyone to try their hand at applying for Horizon projects, assuring them that University will provide all necessary support.

Viktor Koska, national contact person for widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area, Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes, provided more information about Horizon Europe program to interested parties.

InnoThyroGen project’s consortium includes 13 partners, coordinated by University of Split’s School of Medicine. In addition to School of Medicine, project partners include leading healthcare and scientific institutions, public organizations, patient associations, and companies specializing in laboratory diagnostics and developing software solutions in healthcare.
