The international interdisciplinary scientific conference, Gender(ed) Landscapes: Reframing Identity Across Art, Science and Society, took place in Split on October 9-10, 2025. The event was organized by Arts Academy and Faculty of Humanities in Split, in collaboration with University of Split, the SEA EU Alliance, Gallery of Fine Arts in Split, and University of Marie and Louis Pasteur in France.
Over the course of two days, numerous presentations were given, focusing on gender issues as one of key phenomena of contemporary society. Through various perspectives, the conference explored how identities are formed, questioned and reinterpreted across different disciplines and social practices.
Attendees had the opportunity to listen to two exceptional plenary lectures by Prof. Leonida Kovač Ph.D. from Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts and prof. Srećko Jurišić Ph.D. from Faculty of Humanities in Split.
On the conference’s first day, the artistic intervention “All at once” was officially opened inside the Faculty, created by prof. art. Neli Ružić (Department of Painting, Arts Academy).
The artistic intervention by Neli Ružić is part of the project REPER, conducted in collaboration between Faculty of Humanities and Croatian Association of Visual Artists in Split. The project is based on the principle of year-long exhibitions aimed at initiating critical reflection on target topics. It was conceived and is led by assoc. prof. Dalibor Prančević Ph.D.. With this project, the Faculty of Humanities is being transformed into an exhibition space that serves as a new platform for fostering discussions about the role of contemporary art in a broader social context.
By introducing primary (basic) colours — red, blue, and yellow — and their secondary derivatives into the faculty’s architecture, the author constructs a spectral entity that encompasses fundamental colour relationships. In this way, architecture is transformed into a kind of colour laboratory, a space where colours do not appear in isolation but engage in a constant interplay of contrast and complementarity, as stated in the exhibition preface by prof. Dalibor Prančević.
The conference concluded at the Gallery of Fine Arts with presentation of the project "Lexicon of Croatian Woman Artists," led by Ana Šeparović Ph.D. The project explores artistic production of Croatian female artists across various artistic fields. Šeparović presented an overview of ground-breaking books and exhibitions related to the research of women’s body of works in Croatia, outlined methodology and structure of future articles, and provided illustrative examples of this approach’s results on several paradigmatic works by Croatian painters (Cata Dujšin, Anka Krizmanić, Sonja Kovačić-Tajčević, and Slava Raškaj).
This international scientific event took place as part of the SEA-EU Staff Week, Work Package 4.1. Gender and Inclusion, and on October 8, a panel discussion and workshop titled Feminist City were given as an introduction.
