Representatives of nearly thirty companies and seven civil society organizations presented themselves to University of Split Faculty of Economics’ final-year students, on Friday, during the third Internship Day. Internship is an elective course available in the final years of study. It lasts for one month, or 22 working days, and is completely free for employers, who have the opportunity to identify talents, potential future employees, through sort of trial work. On the other hand, students get the chance to apply what they have learned in a real work environment, as well as acquire new knowledge and skills.
Faculty of Economics’ Dean, prof. Bruno Ćorić Ph.D., pointed out that the Faculty has signed agreements with as many as 130 companies. He supported the notion that this form of cooperation is commendable by stating that as many as 25 percent of students who complete their internships receive job offers.
Prof. Nikša Jajac Ph.D., University of Split’s Vice-rector for infrastructure, greeted all those present and emphasized University's support for such activities that involve many students, provide them with opportunities for progress and encounters with the real sector, while also promoting cooperation between the business and academic communities.
During Internship day, students had the opportunity to directly meet potential employers, as explained by assoc. prof. Slavko Šodan Ph.D., coordinator of the Internship Program.
"Employers can select ideal candidates in conversations with students. This program is very interesting for both parties involved. This is evidenced by the percentage of those who receive job offers during their studies. Although we are primarily oriented toward those coming from Dalmatian counties, we are also signing agreements with companies at the national level," Šodan explained.
In addition to the Internship Program, a special program called "Internship - Socially Useful Learning", coordinated by assoc. prof. Lana Kordić Ph.D. is also being implemented. This innovative course was introduced just over five years ago and only in select faculties.
