University of Split’s Department of Professional Studies, in collaboration with IEEE PELS’ Croatia Chapter and project “Science Comes to Town”, organized the lecture “Power Electronics as a Key Enabling Technology for Modern Society.”

It was delivered on September 28 by prof. Manmath Kumar Badapanda Ph.D. It explored the role of power electronics as one of key technologies shaping modern society, with particular emphasis on its contribution to energy transition, energy efficiency and development of sustainable technologies.

In presentation’s part aimed at professional community, prof. Badapanda presented his research on high-efficiency power converters. This included patents in power electronics, which enabled the deployment of more than 500 high-efficiency power converters and modular systems. These systems have been operating continuously (24/7/365), at various nuclear and synchrotron facilities in India for more than a decade.

About the speaker

Prof. Manmath Kumar Badapanda Ph.D. is a distinguished Indian scientist, inventor and professor specializing in power electronics. He is known for his pioneering work in developing precision-regulated, high-power DC power supplies used at major national research facilities in India.

He currently holds the prestigious DAE Raja Ramanna Chair at the Institute of Physics (IOP) in Bhubaneswar and is an associate professor at Dhanbad Indian Institute of Technology (IIT ISM).

He holds prestigious patents as the sole inventor, including the American patent US 10027122B2 and Indian patent No. 436206, for ripple-free high-voltage DC power supply technology.

More than 500 of his high-efficiency power converters and modular systems have been operating continuously (24/7/365) for over a decade in India’s various nuclear and synchrotron facilities.

He authored more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers and delivered over 50 invited lectures worldwide, including Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Japan.
