In the autumn of 2025, I had the opportunity to participate in a short-term student mobility program at Linköping University Hospital. This experience was extremely important, as it allowed me to gain a completely different perspective on how the medical system in Sweden is structured. From the first day, I noticed how well organized, planned, and efficient the system is, from regular follow-up visits to the emergency department. I was able to communicate fluently in English with all staff members, and I am grateful for their warm welcome and the time they invested in me during this period.
The internship was carefully planned prior to my arrival; therefore, I always knew where I was expected to be and at what time. This organization allowed me to interact with multiple physicians in a single day, coming from different social and cultural backgrounds, without any difficulties or misunderstandings. As a result, I was constantly involved in daily clinical activities and felt like a true part of the team.
I strongly encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zone and take part in such experiences, as they can be both life-changing and career-shaping. I particularly value short-term mobility programs because they offer the opportunity to experience different healthcare systems and gain a broader perspective on how medical practice can vary and evolve within the European Union. Overall, this internship was enriching and invaluable, both personally and professionally. Being exposed to a medical environment that prioritizes patient-centered care, organization, and teamwork significantly broadened my understanding of my own training and future role as a physician. I also greatly appreciated the emphasis on work-life balance, mutual respect among colleagues, and evidence-based decision-making. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity, which has undoubtedly had a lasting impact on my medical education and career aspirations.
