Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts just elected 7 new female and 5 male academicians! For the first time in the history of the Croatian Academy, more women than men have been elected as full members!
Among them are Split Rector Prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D. and Prof. Marko Trogrlić Ph.D., historian and priest, former Dean of Faculty of Humanities.
The following academicians were elected: in Social Sciences Department, historian and priest MARKO TROGRLIĆ; in the Mathematical, Physical and Chemical Sciences, chemist MARIJANA ĐAKOVIĆ; in Natural Sciences, molecular biologist IVA TOLIĆ, geologists VLASTA ĆOSOVIĆ and SLOBODAN MIKO; in Medical Sciences, orthopedist DOMAGOJ DELIMAR and nephrologist DRAGAN LJUTIĆ; in Fine Arts, painter LOVRO ARTUKOVIĆ and art historians KATARINA HORVAT-LEVAJ and SANJA CVETNIĆ; in Music and Musicology, musicologist HANA BREKO KUSTURA; and in Technical Sciences, chemical engineer SANJA MARTINEZ. Among 141 regular members, 25 are women, which is the largest number of female academicians to date. After the last elections, held in 2024, there were 19. For the first time in 29 years, a priest has been elected an academician.
At Academy’s election assembly, 7 corresponding and 13 associate members were elected.
