Last night’s opening of the exhibition "K.I.P. 5" attracted many visitors to University Gallery, confirming strong public interest in students’ art scene. In a dynamic blend of ideas, materials and forms, audience had the opportunity to see works by 23 young authors at the beginning of their professional journey.
The exhibition presented a cross-section of current student production, including works by: Anamarija Aničić Kahrić, Jasmina Barbarić, Ani Bulimbašić, Matea Ćevanić, Ivana Čerina, Marko Ćurić, Lara Gojak, Vid Grgas, Roko Jelača, Nikola Jurišić, Lana Kandija Husić, Andrea Klanac, Nika Kuzmanić, Orlando Orlandini, Klaudija Maleš, Ivana Mandić, Pia Midžor, Anja Perić, Petra Perković, Nikolina Pilić, Tara Schwarz, Roko Tomić, and Leonora Ugrin.
Exhibition’s concept was devised by professors and collaborators: Goran Balić, Robert Jozić, Đani Martinić, Duje Matetić, Tomislav Šalov, Mirna Markotić, and student Pia Midžor. Artworks and context were made accessible by prof. Dalibor Lovrić Ph.D., author of exhibition catalogue’s foreword.
Professor Đani Martinić, one of student mentors, emphasizes his goal of giving students the freedom to find their own artistic expression:
I aim to give them as much freedom as possible, because I believe it’s important for them to develop themselves. I only step in when I see the process is heading in the wrong direction, and then I try to bring them back. I don’t want students becoming copies of their mentors; the goal is to create independent artists, not little versions of us, he explained.
Similarly, prof. Dalibor Lovrić highlights that pluralism of expression is not only an aesthetic choice but a fundamental value of contemporary art. In exhibition catalogue’s foreword, as well as in his pedagogical work, he emphasizes absence of stylistic dominance and importance of encouraging various creative approaches.
Assoc. prof. Filip Rogošić, Academy of Arts’ Vice-dean of Academic affairs in Fine Arts Department, opened the exhibition and stressed how important events like this are for students and their artistic growth:
Every exhibition is an opportunity for students to explore themselves and their style, but also to receive support from the audience, which is crucial for their development.
