The exhibition "Observing Coastlines from Space: A Scientific Perspective on Coastlines Using Sentinel-2 Satellite Imagery" was officially opened on November 21, in the atrium of Split University Library. This exhibition, organized by Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Croatia and University of Split, offers a unique opportunity to discover Bay of Cádiz coastlines, Mar Menor lagoon, Ebro River delta, as well as more distant and exotic locations like the Persian Gulf, Philippine archipelago, and Bahamas—all without leaving your location. This exhibition was created as part of UNESCO's initiative "Decade of Ocean Science" and emphasizes the importance of protecting these areas from threats such as pollution, rising sea levels and invasive species.
Opening speeches were delivered by Prof. Nikola Koceić-Bilan Ph.D., University of Split’s Vice-Rector for Students, Teaching, and Business, and Jerónimo Fuentes Candau, Kingdom of Spain’s Deputy Ambassador to Croatia. The exhibition was presented to all those present by Isabel Caballero de Frutos Ph.D., principal investigator of the Sen2Coast project and member of the Research Group for Ecosystems and Oceanography at the Institute for Marine Sciences of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia (ICMAN) and Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), in collaboration with Vice-Presidency for Scientific Culture and the Science City project.
The event was moderated and coordinated by Helena Trze Jakelić, Head of University Gallery.
