The presentation of the start of Phase 2 of the e-University project, which refers to designing and constructing a passive network, as well as implementing of active network and access equipment, took place on April 3 in University of Split’s Senate hall.
Prof. Nikša Jajac Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Infrastructure, emphasized that this project will be significant for University of Split, especially students and researchers, as it represents one phase of our higher education institution and all its components’ digital transformation.
"Network infrastructure, which is one of project’s elements, covers 17 our components, on 35 locations. Its value is exceptional, specifically amounting to 4,524,772.77 euros. Additionally, contributions will be achieved in other project’s elements, but more details will be provided when they reach implementation phase," Vice-Rector Jajac said, explaining that this project phase will enable better signal coverage wherever one moves in our institutions and on Campus, guaranteed by CARNET.
Marijo Tolić, head of network component of e-University, gave a presentation which detailed the project, types of equipment, and implementation process. Mirna Ljubić-Tustonjić, CARNET’s Assistant Director for Network, pointed out the importance of educational activities related to training employees to ensure that the equipment is maintained, implemented, and upgraded in the future. Damir Špirelja, representative of the consortium KING ICT ltd., Croatian Telekom ltd., STORM COMPUTERS ltd. and SUPRA NET ltd., presented planned course of action, in accordance with project tasks.
Digital transformation contributes to flexibility and innovation of education, consolidates raising organizational, managerial, infrastructure, and educational development categories, and enables the convergence of public national and EU’s higher education policies, continuing to monitor current development trends in digital technology.
