This year's Festival of Science, the most exciting week at University of Split, filled with numerous scientific experiments, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, exercises, and presentations, officially opened on May 5th. The significant interest in this event is best demonstrated by the fact that on the very first day, over 200 pupils gathered with curiosity in the square in front of Three Faculties Building.

Festival of Science is an event that has been organized since 2003 with the aim of bringing science closer to the public, and it is held under the patronage of Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth. In addition to city of Split, activities also included other cities in Split-Dalmatia County. Organization of this event involved University of Split’s components and Student Union, joined by numerous collaborating institutions such as primary and secondary schools, institutes, kindergartens, associations, and more.

The festival was opened by prof. Igor Jerković, PhD, University of Split’s Vice-rector for Science and Quality:

“University strives to promote science every year, not only during the Festival but also by organizing Researchers' Night, and I am very pleased to announce the launch of a new project in collaboration with City of Split, "Science Comes to Town," which will popularize science with a multitude of events at city’s many locations” - Vice-rector Jerković said, thanking everyone for coming and expressing hope that this event will spark a desire to pursue science in some of the children attending it.

Supporting the Festival, Split-Dalmatia County’s Deputy Prefect, Stipe Čogelja said:

“This is one of my favourite events that I have followed since student days when I was a member of Student union, and later as County’s representative. There is nothing better than hearing children's laughter and excitement caused by what our University is doing, so I wish you all much success in future activities”, emphasizing that Split-Dalmatia County supports various University projects, actively participating in promoting our successful scientists, best demonstrated by the fact that the County awarded 19 of them this year.

Musical program featured Lukša Vučić, student of Arts Academy in Split.
