Today’s European Researchers’ Night marks an exciting new chapter: in 2026, cities Brest (France), Kiel (Germany), and Split (Croatia) will proudly take on roles of European ambassadors of science. What does this exactly mean? Thanks to the support from more than 70 partner organizations, the three cities will host over 1,000 science-related events throughout 2026, open to the general public and various demographics.

Researchers’ Nights offer a glimpse of the exciting program ahead: in the three cities, six university sessions will invite children to explore science-related topics. There will be a call for co-creating projects, and twelve selected projects in each city will be awarded up to 1,000 euros. Additionally, a science-themed competition called Science Battle will be organized, culminating in a final showdown in Kiel between selected teams from each city.

About the Project

The European project "Science Comes to Town," funded by the European Union, is based on three main goals: bridging the gap between science and public policy, encouraging scientific and research careers among younger generations, promoting dialogue about science, research, and innovation between local authorities and citizens, as well as between research and business sectors.

Representing science in all its forms: this is the project’s ambition. From oceans to health, social sciences to culture, science will be explored through various themes, including intersectoral topics such as European cooperation and sustainable development.

Designed to attract a wide audience—researchers, students, children, companies, and general public—the program will offer a rich and dynamic calendar of events. All information will be available on the official website (Science Comes to Town), as well as local websites and social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube).
