At the meeting of SEA-EU’s 2.0 project within TASK 4.4 Goes Greener, held on June 6 and 7, 2024 in Gdańsk (Poland), representatives of various universities participated, and representatives of University of Split were: student Gabrijela Matić, assist. prof. Ljiljana Najev Čačija Ph.D. and prof. Smiljana Pivčević Ph.D., from Faculty of Economics, assoc. prof. Marin Ugrina Ph.D. and prof. Nediljka Vukojević Medvidović Ph.D., from Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, with the aim of improving implementation and revitalization of global partnership for sustainable development.
First day of the project meeting began with an introductory lecture by Piotr Stepnowski, University of Gdańsk Rector, and Sylwia Mrozowska, Vice-Rector and Coordinator of the SEA-EU Goes Greener. The main event was the award ceremony, where scientists Dominik Goik, Adam Konopka and Patrycja Juchniewicz presented their research related to project goals, emphasizing that gender inequality is still deeply rooted in every society, as well as the need to include gender perspective in research. They concluded that implementation of gender equality goals included changes in legislation, policies, also in social norms and practices.
In the second part of meeting’s program, there was a session on small local steps towards green transformation in higher education institutions. Projects and initiatives within SEA-EU Alliance significantly contribute to create sustainable cities and communities through various approaches that include sustainable campuses, circular economy, improvements in energy efficiency and waste management, as well as sustainability education.
Meeting’s second day began with a discussion and measurement of personal carbon footprint, which raises awareness of its impact on environment and encourages personal responsibility in reducing CO2 emissions as one of SDG 13 goals.
During the poster session on " SEA-EU’s green transformation ", University of Split’s team presented a poster on "Nudges for green transformation in line with SDGs goals". Initiatives and ideas for encouraging sustainability were highlighted and examples of good practices from other universities reviewed and discussed.
Aleksandra Pepłowska from Deloitte gave an informative lecture on ESG reporting, as its implementation in higher education institutions is essential for promoting sustainability, social responsibility and strong management practices.
This was a rich and productive event where University of Split’s representatives contributed to discussions on sustainability and green transformation in higher education institutions, with the aim of making the SEA-EU Alliance a leader in sustainable development among European universities by supporting United Nations’ sustainable development plans.
