The 3rd SEA-EU Society Hub Conference, titled "University and Society - Creating Value Through Engagement," took place at University of Split’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, on July 2-3, 2026. This two-day event gathered researchers, professors, and experts from across Europe to exchange ideas, showcase innovative practices and strengthen collaboration between society and universities through education, research and social engagement.
The conference was officially opened by University of Split’s Vice-Rector, prof. Zoran Đogaš, PhD; Dean of Faculty of Humanities, prof. Ina Reić Ercegovac, PhD; and conference's lead organizer, assist. prof. Ivana Jadrić. Speakers highlighted the importance of universities as drivers of positive social change and emphasized the role of SEA-EU Alliance in fostering international cooperation, innovation and active community contribution.
Special contribution to the opening ceremony was made by prof. Jarosław Jendza, from University of Gdańsk, who gave a lecture "From Montessori's Cosmic Task to Arachnean Ethics: Rethinking Engagement as Interdependence." In his presentation, he offered a contemporary perspective on university social engagement, pointing out the importance of interconnectedness, collaboration and responsibility of higher education in fostering sustainable social development.
The first day featured numerous parallel sessions dedicated to topics such as education and student development, inclusivity, higher education, innovation, social engagement, sustainability, governance and university's impact on the community. Participants from partner SEA-EU universities and other European higher education institutions presented examples of good practice, research findings and projects connecting the academic community with society, thereby fostering exchange of experiences and developing new forms of collaboration.
Conference’s second day was dedicated to interactive workshops where participants discussed topics such as participatory budgeting in higher education, social innovation, the service-learning approach, sustainable development, environmental protection, humanitarian education and strengthening cooperation between universities, civil society and the local community.
SEA-EU Society Hub concluded with new ideas, established partnerships, and a shared commitment to creating lasting social value through higher education.
