Academic sculptor Krešimir Katušić’ solo exhibition entitled "Arché and the state of complex balance" was opened on June 26 on University Gallery’s first floor. Head of University Gallery, Helena Trze Jakelić, spoke about the artist in selected words, saying, among other things, that he graduated from Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, in the class of prof. Miro Vuco, where he got his Ph.D. under the mentorship of academic Petar Barišić and prof. Žarko Paić Ph.D. This is Katušić's second exhibition at University Gallery.
- As evolution of art follows evolution of social sciences and science in general, it is becoming increasingly likely that art will, in the future, live exclusively through modern technology. Despite that, observing Krešimir's work and knowing his oeuvre, I notice a certain departure from such thinking. The title of his exhibition "Arché and State of Complex Balance" clearly shows his preference for primordial, basic part of something. Arhé is a Greek word symbolizing that very beginning, and Krešimir returns to original art language and draws his inspiration from it. Although some may consider such an approach anachronistic, I assure you that this is by no means the case. Krešimir is a contemporary author and this is reflected in his works - asst. art. Đani Martinić, head of Split Academy of Arts’ Sculpture Department, presented the artist and exhibited works.
Katušić said that exhibited works were not titled because each visitor experiences them in his own way:
- With the influence of technology, can we remain to be people and live our lives, gain experiences that we need as human beings to develop? - asked Katušić, saying that he used wood because it has its own energy and allows certain manipulation, and the works in this Split’s exhibition were made in oak and ash tree.
