At the study of Mediterranean Agriculture’s training ground in Donje Glavice (Sinj), together with their professors, students planted 1,000 vines, on February 11, using traditional methods. Alongside students and professors of the undergraduate study Mediterranean Agriculture and graduate study Mediterranean Agronomy, the planting was also attended by: University of Split rector, prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D., vice-rector for strategic planning, prof. Boris Maleš Ph.D., as well as Mayor of Sinj, Miro Bulj, and Sanctuary of the Miraculous Lady of Sinj’s superior, Fra Marinko Vukman, who blessed the new vineyard.

"We are building a strong base for agronomic studies in Sinj, ensuring that students have the opportunity to spend all five years of study at the University of Split. With over 100 enrolled students in undergraduate and graduate studies, there evidently is interest and need to strengthen this sector. The land is our perspective, it is the foundation of development and future. If we also ensure that people can live off it, and build a stable future from fruits of this land, then we have made a big step forward," Rector Ljutić said, expressing satisfaction with this project.

Student Dino Ćukušić, enrolled together with his twin brother, said that he had something to do with agronomy since childhood, and the decision to enrol this program made sense because of its proximity to Split, as well as quality program that provides an excellent foundation for future.

“I am particularly interested in viticulture and see this as a perfect opportunity for improvement. One day, when I have my own family, I want to teach children to appreciate the land, to plant, and understand how important is eating healthily. I consider that one of most important life values”, Dino said.

As a reminder, University of Split’s Rector, prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D., and Mayor of Sinj, Miro Bulj, signed an agreement, in February last year, for concession of land to the University for needs of the Mediterranean Agriculture study, specifically Mediterranean Agronomy. After planting and harvesting of oats, this activity in the training ground is also important for students acquiring knowledge based both on tradition and future technologies.
