Symposium and Summer School RECLAIMING HOPE in Nova Gorica

Goals

  • Cilj 17
As part of activities of European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica (SLO), an interdisciplinary event titled "Reclaiming Hope: Navigate (un)certainty, imagine better futures" will take place in September, combining a two-day international symposium and Summer School, Design+Science. Through lectures, panel discussions and an intensive workshop, the program addresses critical reflections on the role of design in confronting present and future challenges. Special emphasis is placed on how design and architecture can help navigate today’s crises and contribute to shaping more just, resilient, and different futures—with particular focus on local and regional contexts.

The program begins with the symposium, on September 18 and 19, which includes two keynote lectures, eight invited presentations and four panel discussions. There will also be a presentation of EIT Culture & Creativity (CLC South-East Europe and Alps) and workshop Futures Garden in collaboration with EU Policy Lab, providing space for joint reflection on possible future scenarios.

Confirmed guests include: Ezio Manzini, Lodovica Guarnieri, Maja Šuštaršič, Miriam Kathrein, Ákos Schneider, David Martens, Guillem Camprodon, James Auger, Jimmy Loizeau, José Luis de Vicente, Silvio Lorusso, Time’s Up collective, and others.

Following the symposium, Design+Science Summer School—intensive workshop intended for students and practitioners from fields of design, architecture and related disciplines, will take place (September 20-22).

The event is organized by Centre for Creativity (Museum of Architecture and Design, Ljubljana) in collaboration with international partners, under curatorial leadership of Ivica Mitrović (Art Academy, University of Split). This symposium and summer school are part of activities of European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica.

Participation in the symposium is free of charge, but prior registration is required. More information and registration are available on website www.rehope.czk.si.
