When robotics and forensics merge: Faculty of Science brings innovative ideas

Goals

  • Cilj 17
At Faculty of Science in Split, robotics and forensics have joined forces, resulting in an innovation that pushes boundaries of technology and science in practice. The robotics association Inovatic, which operates within Faculty’s Polytechnic Department, collaborated with Split Faculty of Forensic Sciences in a project that combines knowledge, technology, and practical application. As part of preparations for the regional First Lego League (FLL) competition, association’s members developed the smart brush, an innovative tool that enables more precise, safer, and controlled restoration of artifacts, bones and sensitive forensic samples. The project aligns with this year FLL’s theme "Unearthed - exploring what lies beneath the surface," providing pupils with the opportunity to mix creativity and science.

Project mentors are former PMF student, MSc. in computer science and engineering, Bruno Bešlić, and current student Josip Stepinac, computer science and engineering. They transfer knowledge and experience to students and demonstrate how theory can become practical tool in real life. This collaboration shows the strength of interdisciplinary work and that pupils, students, and professors can contribute to real scientific and professional challenges when robotics, forensic science, and creativity are combined.
