Celebration of Faculty of Science’s 78th anniversary

Faculty of Science (PMF) celebrated its Day on Friday, May 25, with Faculty Council's formal session. Along with Dean, prof. Mile Dželalija Ph.D., Vice-dean Prof. Andrina Granić Ph.D. and assist. prof. Gordan Radobolja Ph.D., the session was attended by professors, employees and students of the Faculty, heads of University of Split's components and other members of the academic community.

On behalf of University of Split's rector, those present were greeted by prof. Ana Marušić Ph.D., who congratulated Faculty Day and wished them much success in their future work.

In his report, dean of PMF, prof. Mile Dželalija Ph.D. highlighted the continuity of this higher education institution's activities, which has been educating personnel in STEM for 78 years, 15 of which under its current name. In the presentation prepared by the Faculty Administration, it was pointed out that over a thousand students study at PMF, with the number of newly enrolled students keeps growing in the past five years. In 2023, 88 new masters and 117 bachelors were promoted. Currently, there are 156 employees, 73 of which in science and teaching. This component's scientific contribution is certainly reflected in University's good placement on world rankings, and according to Web of Science Core Collection, over 100 papers published in its database in 2022, as well as their high citation rate testify to this. When it comes to scientific projects, two international and 6 Croatian projects are active, led by PMF professors.

As for the Faculty's professors and students' other activities are concerned, it is almost impossible to list them all, especially when it comes to promoting science, in which they are dedicated. With numerous workshops, lectures, school visits, Open Days and similar activities, they participate in the Science Festival, Researchers' Night, also collaborate on numerous projects with Split-Dalmatia County, including Centre of Excellence, EDIT Code School, and ICT County.

Faculty Day's celebration was an opportunity to award prizes and recognitions to professors, employees and students.
