Sveučilište u Splitu podržava UN-ove ciljeve održivog razvoja
...new city palace

A long time ago, in the 70s, during Croatian Spring, Split's visionaries made efforts to map the site of Split university campus into city's spatial plans and thus laid foundations of modern higher education in this part of Croatia.

It is important to note that an academic, above all a great visionary, Ivan Supek, played a major role in creating, among other things, our University. As the then rector of University of Zagreb, he "let" regional higher education institutions that were then part of University of Zagreb, to become components of new universities, thus supporting decentralization of the Croatian education system for the purpose of economically strengthening all parts of our country.

Even today of crucial importance for Split, in addition to Mediterranean Games that initiated construction of important infrastructure facilities of the long-dreamed-of highway directly connecting Dalmatia to Zagreb and further to Europe, Split Campus and Split University are considered an unparalleled project.

Over decades, the planned space has been somewhat cut in pieces and taken by others, but in the end, University of Split still managed to get what was intended for it a long time ago. Its home.

The first faculty building was completed in 1976, and everything else is history. 50 years later, almost 70% of the planned facilities have been built on more than 200,000 square meters, in the service of modern education and quality of life of students who live there; including:

University Library’s "floating" building as University’s symbol, impressive Faculty of Economics’ building, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy as Split campus’ longest resident, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding, as well as Three Faculties Building, which alone, over almost 30,000 square meters, contains 85 laboratories, 6 lecture halls and 240 offices, a planetarium, a ship simulator and numerous extracurricular contents, necessary for daily life and work of its students and employees.

There are currently 600 students living on the campus, and building a new student dormitory that number will increase to 1,100. Restaurants, canteens, cafes, a bank, sports fields, a gym..., all this makes university campus city’s new palace, which quiets down only in summer. For the rest of the year, several thousand people, either students or employees, flock to the campus every day. Everyday scientific, cultural or sports events on campus slowly but surely determine the pulse of the city, city that falls asleep for a few hours at night, which is not always the case on campus...
