School of Medicine’s Day, which marked the 27th anniversary of this higher education institution’s foundation, took place on March 26 in the School’s Amphitheatre. On behalf of the Dean, prof. Ante Tonkić Ph.D., prof. Valdi Pešutić Pisac Ph.D., vice dean for finance and management, addressed all those present.
- School of Medicine in Split’s history is unique, but also complex. Several generations of professors and students participated in its creation. Study of Medicine in Split began in 1974 as a branch of Zagreb’s Faculty of Medicine, which played an important role in the independence of Medicine in Split, which was founded on this very day, 1997, - vice-dean Pešutić Pisac said about the School’s history.
Today, School of Medicine conducts classes in four integrated studies - Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, in cooperation with Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, and Medicine in English.
- Teaching is performed in 16 specialist postgraduate study programs, and scientific research work and innovations are carried out in 6 centres and 6 institutes with 26 laboratories and research groups. Currently, 23 projects are being implemented at the School, 11 of which are European. Since its foundation, School of Medicine published as many as 5,815 papers in WoSS and 6,107 in Scopus, the H index is 188, and counts more than 219,000 citations in WoSS and 216,000 in Scopus, - she pointed out.
Since last year's celebration, several important projects have been successfully implemented: the final phase of Building A’s construction reconstruction, Student Counselling Centre was established and Quality Office opened. New Centre for Clinical Skills has been equipped, which we are particularly proud of. Teaching staff’s scientific productivity, as well as incoming and outgoing mobility, has increased - Vice-Dean Pešutić Pisac concluded.
Prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D., University of Split’s Rector, also congratulated School of Medicine on this important anniversary, remembering important events in its history, some of them during his mandate as Dean, for example, establishment of Study of Medicine in English.
Prof. Dragan Primorac Ph.D. shared his joy for this anniversary with those gathered.
- My basic message is that the future depends on what we do today. I am happy to see that with the wise policy of running University and this School, this institution brings together the best in Croatia and beyond - Dragan Primorac said. This is certainly supported by the congratulations that the School received from its collaborators and partners, the REGIOMED Clinic in Bavaria, as well as Penn State University.
